Foodies unite! Six Taste is where it's at ! I had never done anything like this before.
Six Taste is a food tour, owned by Sally Tiongco. They do food tours in different parts of LA. You meet up with a group of people, and a tour guide walks you around to different restaurants, where you get to taste some of the dishes at each restaurant.
The tour guide tells you stories, and facts about the food, the city, and the restaurants that you go to. Each restaurant is different and delicious! It was so hard to choose my favorite so I'm just going to say, I loved them all! Mom and I went on the Six Taste tour in
Santa Monica, Ca.
Our tour guide was Danny. He was really cool. He knows so much about food, and the restaurants in LA. Everyone on the tour was friendly as well, and they were all about the food. Just like me and Mom.
Our first stop on the tour was Rocken Wagner Bakery & Cafe. Danny passed out samples of their cheese pretzel with poppy seeds and their blueberry scones.
We also had a small sample of their coffee. Mom doesn't normally let me drink coffee, because she says I'm too young, but she let me taste this one. I bought one of the cheese pretzel twists to bring home because it was soooo good!
We tasted different types of honey's at Bill's. I didn't know there was honey from all types of flowers and plants.
Mom bought some avocado honey and I bought some honeycomb that I am going to try with cheese.
Then Fair Hills Farms to taste the fresh apples, and learn from Miguel and Melanie about eating fresh fruits and veggies, to help our stomachs and our minds.
“I loved the experience and the food! I’m excited to attend another one!” ~ Mom
After the Farmer's Market, we went to Locanda de Lago. It's an Italian restaurant.
Our host was J.D. and he told us about all of the dishes we were going try.
My favorite dish at this restaurant was the Pizzochieri all Valtellinese, which is pasta and yukon potato dish.
I got to meet their executive Chef Gianfranco Menuz while I was there too.
Taberna was our next stop. It's a Spanish restaurant.
This place had the best Spicy Potato skins.
My mom loved the Paella Valencia. That dish is made with Bomba rice.
Chef Verite Mazzola is the chef at Taberna. She is a great chef.
She's been a chef in a lot of different places around the world. Even Hong Kong. She was so nice to give me a tour of the kitchen. She even gave me some Bomba rice with other ingredients from Spain to take home. I'm going to use them in one of my recipes for my cooking show. Thanks Chef Verite!
Our last 2 stops were Border Grill and Nice Cream. Border Grill is a fun place to go eat Mexican food. I liked the paintings on the walls.
The Crispy Potato Rojas Tacos were my favorite! I still keep thinking about them. Mom's favorite was the Plantain Empanadas. She said she could eat them all day.
Chef Alex Moreno is the Executive Chef at this restaurant. He is super cool! Did you know he was the winner of Choppedon the Food Network? Awesome, right?! He taught me how to cook a fresh corn tortilla. You can see the video my mom recorded below.
Chef Alex also took me on a tour of the kitchen, and the refrigerator where they keep the vegetables and meats.
He showed me an octopus that they use to make one of their dishes. I'm definitely going to go back and try the octopus.
The last stop was dessert! Gelato from Nice Cream. I had the tiramisu flavor and Mom had strawberry.
By the time we left to go home, we were stuffed! It was worth it though. Thank you to everyone at Six Taste and all of the great restaurants! I'm really excited to go to the next Six Taste tour. I think we're going to do the Little Tokyo one next.
